Unconsented acknowledgements

Today I’ve discovered something new: unconsented acknowledgement. It seems it’s serious enough for some journals to ask whether we have asked everyone in the acknowledgements section of a journal article to give their consent. The problem is, apparently, that these acknowledgements can be written in a way to imply approval or a contribution to the paper — whatever are they going to think of next? Maybe actual research?
